May 2009 Sewing and Bernina Clubs

Hi everyone! I have finally got it together (well as much as can be expected:)). This was the original reason I created this blog was to show and tell all the classes that are coming up for the month. I will try to post pictures and dates of monthly classes so you can see the projects ahead of time. Sometimes the samples aren't completed real early in the month, but I will try to get together with my "people" (Kat and Patti) and get my act together! If you have a blogger sign in you can leave comments and questions about the projects, otherwise you can at least view them. So here is the month of May, live from Las Vegas and high speed Internet! It is too hot to sleep so I am making the most of my time and sending this off for publication! It is necessary to pre-register for each class.

May 15, 2009 10-noon Sew you want to sew? This is a class for beginning adults and those that want to brush up on their basic sewing skills, or maybe you just like the project! We will be making a Sewing Machine Caddy that hangs under your sewing machine to hold all of your notions. On the reverse side there is an ironing pad! The cost of the class is $15. If you just want the pattern, you still need to register for the class and will receive the pattern for the price of the class. It is one I designed myself.

Also May 15 from 2-4 is a Cover and Chain Mastery Class for the 1300 MDC Serger. No charge if you bought your serger at Bear Paw. (no photo)

Saturday May 16 at 10-noon is the BSR Blast. We will be "thread painting". This is a great class to improve your BSR skills. It is 2 hours of "supervised" freemotion quilting using your BSR. You need a quilted sandwich with a big floral design fat quarter.

Also on Saturday May 16 is Mastery II from 1:00-3:30. We continue on in the Mastery Work book and try all sorts of new Bernina feet, and play with the lettering and memory function on your new Bernina. No charge for this class if you bought your Bernina at Bear Paw. (no photo)

Monday May 18 at 9:30 am is LOVE MY 730/200 Club. We are starting a little early so we can finish up more of the techniques on the beautiful "Marleigh" Pillow. Check your stash of Through the Needle Magazines and see if you have issue #19. This class was not posted in the newsletter so mark your calendars. $10.

Monday May 18 is also Embroidery Club at 1:00. We will be experimenting with Embroidery Applique. Bring something Denim to try this fun technique. If you would like to look at the featured design pack it is called Paisley Applique and is in the Borders and trims section of the ETO catalog.

Tuesday May 19 at 1:00 is Serger Club. We are making a reversible vest. I believe there are 2 patterns left in the drawer. 3/4 yards of 2 different fabrics is all you need.

Wednesday May 20 is Kids Camp. It is 3:45-5:30. We are designing our own denim skirt out of recycled jeans. Bring a pair of jeans that are too short, and some fabric to make a sweet little ruffle or belt. Don't forget a #16 jeans needle for your machine.

Thursday May 28 is Virtual Bernina Club from 4-6. This month's project is pillows. They are really cute and easy. I was wondering if you wanted to stay after class and make one? It may be one we will want to turn in to a work shop and have you bring your sewing machine. If any of you purchased the bias binder, this is a great class to use it in. I will try to get a picture soon.

Saturday May 23 at 10:45 is Saturday Software Sampler. If you own Editor Plus or Designer Plus Software and have had your mastery class from Sherry, this will give you lots of practical information and practice to enhance your software skills. First time participants pay $20 for the year. Each class is $10 unless you bring back a finished project from the month before. This class will be on editing. You can alter all of the designs you own and add and remove pieces of the designs.

Saturday May 23 is also Mastery I from 2:30-5:30, for new machine owners.

We will be closed Sunday and Monday May 24 and 25 for the Holiday weekend.

Bag Lady on June 4th 1:00-3:30 is the "Flirty Bag". Bag Lady will continue through the summer even though it is not listed on the calendar.

June 6 at 2:00 is Serger Mastery for all of you new Serger owners. (No photo)

June 7 from 1-4 is the April Showers Umbrella Class! Make your own Umbrella.

I have posted some photos of the Swick family vacation if you have been following along! Happy Sewing! Make sure you are keeping a drop of oil in your sewing machine and putting in a fresh needle.

Did you know that if you #57 foot is not giving you an exact quarter inch you can adjust it with a screw driver on the back? Push the guide tighter to the foot and tighten it up!
